Where does Google get its web site description from?

One audience member mentioned that while conducting competitive research he noticed that the text from Google's descriptions didn't actually appear on the site anywhere.

Mike Grehan said that often times Google pulls descriptions from the ODP, the Open Directory. Next time you notice that the description in Google doesn't seem to come from the site be sure to check ODP.
